The information collected in the fields of the ESEE questionnaire is answered by a high percentage of companies in the live sample. However, there are two specific cases which must be taken into account:

• the information regarding the production plants (fields of the box A3 of the questionnaire)
• the information regarding the markets serviced by the companies (fields of the Section D of the questionnaire)

Since most companies only have one industrial plant, the information corresponding to the plants numbered 2 to 25 (maximum number of plants that can be specified) will be left in blank. Equally, the information corresponding to markets numbered 2 to 5 (maximum number of markets can be specified) will be in blank for a significant percentage of companies, which only identify one market.

Although the information regarding the average number of identified plants and markets for the companies taken together is available in the Annual Reports prepared by the Ministry of Industry, we show below, for each year, the values corresponding to the 2 variables mentioned above. In both cases a distinction is made among the companies with one, two or more plants (or markets). These values have to be seen in relation with the sample for each year (which appears in “TOTAL”).
